Police say a 17-year-old Roca boy made a false ATM deposit that inflated his bank account by $5,000.

The boy allegedly deposited an empty envelope into a Union Bank ATM at 48th and Calvert streets in Lincoln on July 25, said Officer Katie Flood.

Immediately following the deposit and over the next several days, the boy allegedly made seven debit transactions and four ATM withdrawals that amounted to a financial loss of $4,803 Union Bank, Flood said. Most of the alleged debit purchases were made at Westfield Gateway Mall.

The boy was interviewed by the Lincoln Police Department’s Checks and Fraud investigators Wednesday and was taken to the Lancaster County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of felony theft by deception, Flood said.
